I'm wondering how to safely update my BIOS. I just recently updated to Windows 11 and I'm not longer able to play certain games due to TPM / Secure Boot. I followed all of the steps and I still am unable to open certain applications. HP had an option to update BIOS built in but I was unable to do so for whatever reason. I'd appreciate any help I'm able to receive.

Hi @lovetrevon1

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry for the difficulty you are facing after upgrading to Windows 11, especially with games not opening due to TPM and Secure Boot requirements. I understand how discouraging it feels when the built‑in BIOS update option did not work as expected. I appreciate the effort you’ve already made in following the steps and trying to resolve it.

Here is how you can safely update the BIOS on your HP system:

Step 1: Identify Your Exact Model

  • Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
  • Note down the “System Model” and “BIOS Version/Date.”
  • This ensures you download the correct BIOS update.

Step 2: Download the Latest BIOS Update

Step 3: Prepare Your System

  • Connect the laptop or desktop to AC power.
  • Close all applications and temporarily disable sleep/hibernate.
  • Do not disconnect power during the update.

Step 4: Run the BIOS Update Utility

  • Double‑click the downloaded file.
  • Follow the on‑screen instructions.
  • The system will restart and automatically apply the BIOS update.
  • Do not press any keys or power off during the process.

Step 5: Verify the Update

  • After restart, press F10 during boot to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Confirm the BIOS version matches the update you installed.
  • Ensure TPM and Secure Boot are enabled under Security settings.

Step 6: Test Applications

  • Restart into Windows 11.
  • Try launching the games or applications that previously failed.
  • If they still do not open, check whether Secure Boot and TPM are properly recognized in Windows by pressing Windows + R, typing tpm.msc, and confirming status.

These steps should help you safely update the BIOS and ensure TPM/Secure Boot are active for compatibility with Windows 11 applications.

Hello. I got to Step 2, but am unable to complete it as it for some reason believes I am still on Windows 10. It only allows me to select the Windows 10 Operating Systems, therefore making it so the only BIOS updates are older. The latest is from December 2023. Should I try installing that one?

HP Recommended

I understand how confusing it feels when the support page only lists Windows 10 under the operating system choices, even though you’re running Windows 11. Thank you for checking carefully—that detail is important.

Here’s some clarity:

  • BIOS updates are not tied to Windows versions in the same way drivers are. A BIOS update is firmware for the motherboard, and it applies regardless of whether you’re running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • If the latest BIOS available for your system is from December 2023, that is the most current release, even if the site labels it under Windows 10.
  • Installing that BIOS update is safe and recommended, provided it matches your exact system model and product number.

What You Should Do

  • Go ahead and download the December 2023 BIOS update from the HP driver page for your model.
  • Follow the same preparation steps: connect to AC power, close applications, and avoid interruptions during the update.
  • After installation, restart and press F10 to confirm the BIOS version has updated.
  • Then check that TPM and Secure Boot are enabled in BIOS under Security.

So yes, you should install the December 2023 BIOS update even though it’s listed under Windows 10—it is the correct and latest firmware for your system.

I completed those steps this morning, thank you. Now, the issue is that I'm unable to turn on Memory Integrity due to one driver that makes it incompatible. For context, the application I'm trying to open is VALORANT. It gives me a step by step of what I should try to do to fix it. I've completed them all but to complete the final step I need to unable HVCI/VBS which requires Memory Integrity. Ever since updating to Windows 11 I've been unable to open the game, and I've tried to follow all of the steps. I appreciate your patience with responding through these messages and trying to help. If there's any more context I can provide to allow you to guide me easier please let me know.image.png

You are welcome @lovetrevon1

I understand how discouraging it feels to have gone through the BIOS update successfully, only to be blocked by Memory Integrity when trying to launch your game. You’ve already done a thorough job following the steps, so let’s focus on what’s happening now.

Why this occurs

  • Memory Integrity (part of Core Isolation in Windows Security) requires all drivers to be compatible with virtualization-based security (HVCI/VBS).
  • If even one driver is flagged as incompatible, Windows will not allow Memory Integrity to be enabled.
  • Games like VALORANT rely on anti-cheat systems that require Secure Boot and TPM, but they also interact with virtualization-based security settings. That’s why you’re seeing this conflict.

Steps you can try next

Identify the incompatible driver

  • Press Windows + I > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation details.
  • Windows will list the driver(s) preventing Memory Integrity from being enabled. Note the name and version.

Update or replace the driver

  • Visit the device manufacturer’s website or HP’s driver page: HP Drivers & Downloads.
  • Download the latest version of the flagged driver.
  • If no update is available, uninstall the device temporarily to test whether Memory Integrity can be enabled.

Check Windows Update for optional driver updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update > Advanced options > Optional updates.
  • Install any available driver updates, especially for chipset, storage, or input devices.

Test with Memory Integrity disabled

  • If the game specifically requires HVCI/VBS to be disabled, you can turn off Memory Integrity in Windows Security > Device Security > Core Isolation.
  • Restart the system and try launching VALORANT again.
  • This does not affect TPM or Secure Boot, so those requirements remain satisfied.

Firmware and driver alignment

  • Ensure your BIOS update is complete and TPM/Secure Boot are enabled in BIOS.
  • Confirm in Windows by pressing Windows + R, typing tpm.msc, and checking that TPM is ready for use.

Summary
The issue is not with the BIOS update itself but with a driver that isn’t compatible with Memory Integrity. Updating or removing that driver is the key step. Once the driver conflict is resolved, you’ll be able to toggle Memory Integrity freely and meet the requirements for your game.
