@RT7973, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check for Overheating

  • Issue: If the system is overheating, it may automatically restart to prevent hardware damage.
  • Troubleshoot: Ensure the PC has adequate airflow. Check if the CPU or GPU temperatures are excessively high during the diagnostic test. Clean out any dust and verify that all fans are functioning correctly.

RAM Issues

  • Issue: Faulty or improperly seated RAM can lead to system crashes or restarts.
  • Troubleshoot: Reseat the RAM modules. If you have more than one stick of RAM, try running the system with one stick at a time to isolate any faulty module.

Power Supply Problems

  • Issue: A failing or insufficient power supply unit (PSU) can cause the system to restart unexpectedly.
  • Troubleshoot: Verify that the PSU is rated for the system’s power demands, especially if you have high-end components (like a powerful GPU). If possible, test with a different PSU to rule out power-related issues.

Graphics Card Issues

  • Issue: A faulty GPU can cause crashes, especially under heavy load during diagnostics or gaming.
  • Troubleshoot: Try removing and reseating the GPU. If you have onboard graphics, try removing the dedicated GPU and testing with integrated graphics to see if the issue persists.

Hard Drive/SSD Problems

  • Issue: A failing hard drive or SSD can cause the system to restart unexpectedly, especially if there are bad sectors or disk errors.
  • Troubleshoot: Run a disk diagnostic tool to check the health of your storage devices. If the storage is making strange noises or showing up as failing in diagnostics, you may need to replace it.

Corrupted System Files or OS

  • Issue: Corrupted operating system files or misconfigured settings can cause instability.
  • Troubleshoot: You may need to perform a System Restore or Reset the PC to fix corrupt system files. If the problem started after a recent update or software installation, reverting to an earlier state could help.

Faulty Drivers or BIOS Settings

  • Issue: Outdated or incompatible drivers, or incorrect BIOS settings, could cause instability and restarts.
    • Update drivers: Ensure all device drivers (especially for the GPU, chipset, and network adapters) are up-to-date.
    • Update BIOS: Check if your motherboard’s BIOS needs an update, as newer versions may resolve stability issues.
    • Reset BIOS to defaults: If changes were made in the BIOS, try resetting to default settings to see if that resolves the issue.

Power Settings in BIOS

  • Issue: Some power settings, like sleep or overclocking options, could cause restarts.
  • Troubleshoot: Access the BIOS settings and disable any overclocking, set power management settings to default, and disable features like fast boot or C-states that could cause instability.

Faulty Motherboard

  • Issue: If the motherboard is faulty, it can cause random restarts due to improper connections or power distribution.

HP Diagnostics

  • Since the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Tool is reporting restarts during testing, you may want to focus on which test is causing the restart. Is it during CPU stress, RAM tests, or other components? This could help isolate the faulty part.

Next Steps:

  1. Run HP Diagnostics again and pay attention to which specific component causes the restart.
  2. Test hardware individually (RAM, GPU, and storage) and monitor the temperature and power supply.

I hope these steps help resolve the issue

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
