Well???   Did anyone ever figure out what what was the major failure problem on the Truckee boards?   Or was it merely that HP had made them, and they were ALWAYS going to be a failed product?

@jelabarre -- a few decades ago, several motherboard manufacturers who purchased capacitors from another company were finding that those capacitors had a short lifetime -- about a year.

So, I do not know if HP was a victim of those "less-than-optimal" capacitors on the motherboards that HP manufactured (or maybe got an Asian company to manufacture on their behalf).

Were the documents in that Class Action law-suit helpful in defining the issue, and assigning blame?

hi
I bought a hp pavilion m9785.fr
Unless I'm mistaken, it was the same motherboard
Barely three years old, impossible to restart, the start-up sequence looped, turning on, fan on, then shutting down, restarting
nothing to do !
at the time, I was in the Fr community, and I did not meet other people, I had opened a thread of discussion, explaining all the attempts, and the few answers given, did not have helped
I had done some research, and found several posts here!
the problems if I remember correctly were more or less different
but from memory, some could have had another motherboard, new revision, but for me it was already too late, when I saw this

@Prométhée -- impossible to restart, the start-up sequence looped, turning on, fan on, then shutting down, restarting

Try this:

  1. remove the current disk-drive
  2. connect a brand-new disk-drive
  3. install Windows onto the new disk-drive

Do you still have the same symptoms?

Or, with your current disk-drive, boot from the Windows 10 installation media. At the screen where there is a large "Install" button, instead click the small "repair" button, to see if it helps.

As I would have expected, the class-action documentation (both the suit and HP's response) has nothing about the cause of the failures, only that HP has agreed to replace the defective parts and extend warranties.  I certainly wouldn't expect any company paying out a settlement would define the causes in their response, as that effectively admits guilt.

Which is why I wondered if the cause was *later* determined (faulty caps, bad solder joints, firmware/BIOS flaws, etc).  It seemed if it were replaceable components then someone could fix it themselves.

Not so critical now, as I got some of the parts I need for building a new Ryzen/AM4-based system, after which I can just strip the e9180t down for any usable parts, and send the rest to the appropriate scrap locations (metal, plastic recycling, and save the circuit boards for the next time I'm at our partner site at IBM, where I can use their electronics recycling bin)

One of the rare times, or I read something, more or less explained, it was a defective Nvidia chip series
But from memory, there was no hp document specifying, well the cause!
for this motherboard problem, it seemed random, and not always exactly the same problem, can be difficult for them to finally tell the cause!
all I know is that it had been replaced, by another model!
And I have never seen a document, a precise announcement of this type of Hp return
The only main ones are during serious battery problems, or power supplies.

but so disappointed at the time, because already a volunteer in the community, and nothing could be done for me and I saw too late that users from other countries had received a new motherboard I dropped and stopped looking

The worst part is that it was sent back, because I did not know if it was normal for the graphics card to make an airplane noise, when I opened the bios
I pass on it, it was quite a story, for nothing, and ultimately not even three years later: sudden death!

For my part, my computer is still waiting in a corner, a bit of trouble, throwing it in the trash, I just got the main one that I could use

Memory, HDD
