Hi @t_amz1
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing an issue with your computer not turning on properly, even after it's been plugged in for a while. The flashing orange and white light usually indicates a power issue or a problem with the battery or charging system. Let's go through a few troubleshooting steps to help you resolve this:
1. Check the Power Supply and Charger
Sometimes, a faulty or loose power connection can cause the laptop not to power on properly.
- Inspect the charger and power cord for any visible damage or fraying.
- Try a different power outlet: Ensure the outlet you're using is working. Test with another device to make sure it provides power.
- If you have access to a different charger that is compatible with your laptop, try using it to see if the issue is with the charger.
2. Reset the Power (Battery Reset)
Performing a hard reset can help if the laptop's internal battery or power system is causing the issue.
For Laptops with a Removable Battery:
- Turn off the laptop and remove the battery.
- Hold the power button down for 30 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reinsert the battery, plug the charger in, and try to power on the laptop again
3. Check the Power LED Lights
The orange and white flashing lights may indicate a power issue, such as the laptop not charging properly or a battery issue.
- Solid Orange Light: This typically indicates that the laptop is charging, but the battery is low or charging slowly.
- Flashing Orange Light: Often, this means there's a charging error or the battery is defective.
- White Light: A white light generally means the system is powered on or fully charged.
4. Disconnect All External Devices
Remove any external devices such as USB drives, printers, or external monitors, as sometimes they can cause boot issues.
- Disconnect everything from the laptop and then try turning it on with just the charger plugged in.
5. Perform a Hard Restart
In some cases, holding the power button for a longer period can perform a hard reset. Try the following:
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds continuously.
- Let go and then press the power button again to see if it turns on.
6. Check for Overheating Issues
If your laptop had been sitting unused for a while, it might have overheated or suffered from dust buildup. Ensure that the laptop is in a well-ventilated area, and check the ventilation fans for any visible dust. Overheating can sometimes prevent a laptop from turning on.
I hope this helps.
