Helping a friend on an HP Pavilion Media Center m8430f PC and if the power is removed by unplugging the power cord I only get a black screen the next time I plug in the power cord and attempt to boot. I get power lights and all fans are running. The PC is clearly running but just see a black screen. Message on monitor is no signal from computer. If I remove the CMOS battery (Which I did try replacing already) then insert it again, it will allow me to boot up normally and the PC will reboot, shutdown and restart, etc. as long as I never remove the power from the computer. Once the power is removed I must pull the CMOS battery again to get back to square one. I am hoping if I can refresh the BIOS by flashing it that will fix my issues. I currently am running American Megatrends Inc., *Release Date*03/28/2008.

If you unplug a computer, to turn it off, normal that the computer, encounters problems
But if you shut down the computer normally, then unplug the Cable, that's better, but not ideal either, especially if every time..
this can cause a power surge!
So a bios update, if there is one, probably won't change anything!
And what version is in place?

Thank you Promethee but I did not mean to imply that I was not shutting down first by using the Windows Shutdown button. I simply meant that at any point that power is removed, whether I unplug it after the shutdown or we lose power in the home, the PC will not boot up properly until I remove the CMOS battery and put it back in which basically is resetting the BIOS to default values, which is weird since the values are already set at default values. So I was thinking the current BIOS is corrupted somehow. Hoping that if I can flash it with a good copy that it would fix this weird issue.

I did include the current BIIS version info on my first post but this forum apparently will not display the full text if you put in too much information. If you hit the print button under the menu next to the post you can see the entire post. Strike two for HP support. The BIOS I am running now is: I currently am running American Megatrends Inc., *Release Date*03/28/2008.

Ok, but if the computer is off normally, not unplugged, no cut, it will restart normally ?
For the bios version, I read here
Release Date*03/28/2008
this is not the version:
Updating the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) (Windows)
see here Bios: f.32

just the date, not practical
but as I said you will have to search in other sites
