I purchased a new HP from Amazon.  Yesterday  I turned it on for the first time.  Later I shut it down and then turned it back on t see how fast it shutdown and loaded.  I got a blank screen and then the message "Press the ESC kep for startup menu" but the keyboard and mouse were frozen.  I eventually unplugged the computer as there was no other way to do anything else.  I tried again and got the same message.  unplugged and tried again...this time it booted.  Today, I turned it on only to get a blank screen (but the mouse cursor appeared).  After hitting enter I got the same message "press the ESC ...."  This time I tried control/alt/delete and it booted.  turned it off and on again and this time it works.  This should not happen on a brand new computer.  What is the issue?
