Z230
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My Z230 has Windows 10 installed in GPT mode and will boot and run with secure boot enabled and legacy boot disabled.

I am trying to make a Win 10 bootable flash drive for an emergency. I have created a flash drive using the most recent Window Media Creation Tool.

The problem is that with the machine set secure boot enabled, legacy disabled, the boot menu does not show the flash drive as an option. It shows Windows Boot Manager as the only boot choice. I can boot from the flash drive if I set secure boot disabled, legacy boot enabled.

According to Microsoft docs, I should be able to secure boot from the flash drive. Why isn't the flash drive visible in secure mode?

  Thanks

Hi:

On many PC's you have to disable secure boot in order to boot from any device other than the internal hard drive, such as a USB flash drive, or DVD.

I recommend you disable secure boot, and then your USB flash drive should show up under the list of EFI bootable devices.

After W10 has been installed in EFI mode, you can enable secure boot again.

And I guess the Z230 is one of those machines. I know it works if I disable secure boot and enable legacy boot. so I can live with that. Thanks.
