My HP laptop (Windows 11) was stuck on the BitLocker recovery screen for about a month. I recently entered the correct recovery key from my Microsoft account and it was accepted, but now the laptop won’t boot.

After troubleshooting, it keeps showing a blue error screen with messages like:

File: \Windows\System32\drivers\nllRvrv.sys

Error code: 0xc000007b

Earlier it also failed on:

\Windows\System32\drivers\nllVmm.sys

I have already tried: • Startup Repair

• Rebuilding boot files (bootrec /fixmbr, /rebuildbcd, bcdboot)

• Uninstalling latest quality update

But Windows still won’t start and keeps looping back to recovery.

My laptop contains years of personal and work data, so I want to avoid losing data.

Is there a way to repair Windows this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Akanksha12

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I Understand your concern and don’t worry let me help you with this.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • Which exact HP laptop model are you using?
  • Do you recall if any new drivers, updates, or software were installed before the BitLocker recovery screen first appeared?
  • Are you able to boot into Safe Mode at all, or does it fail before reaching that option?

Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:
              Check Safe Mode Access

  • Restart the laptop and press F8 or hold Shift + F8 during boot to see if you can enter Safe Mode.
  • If successful, you can try uninstalling problematic drivers or updates from there.
    System File Checker & DISM

  • Boot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE).
  • Open Command Prompt and run:
    sfc /scannow

  1. System Restore
    • If you had restore points enabled, try rolling back to a point before the BitLocker issue.
  2. Data Backup Before Repair
  • If none of the above works, I strongly recommend connecting the drive to another computer (via USB enclosure or SATA-to-USB adapter) to back up your important files before attempting deeper repairs or a reinstall.

If you can confirm whether Safe Mode or System Restore is accessible, that will help us decide the safest next step.

I hope this helps.
