Victus by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop PC 16-e0000 (2V8Z8AV)

Heyy Guys, so I have an hp victus 16 and I purchased it 2 years ago.. The laptop came with windows 10 and I got a free windows 11 update.. Now the real problem starts 6 months ago, as we all know Victus has hinge issues ( Back panel popping up) mine hae too..

I had an extended warranty from a third party, I asked them about the issue and they asked me to send them the laptop, they had a pickup guy who came and picked up my laptop. They had my laptop for two weeks, after a week they called and said that as it's a body damage this is not covered in warranty and I need to pay additional amount to cover the cost, I declined and asked them to give me my laptop back.

The laptop got delivered to me by next week, in total they had my laptop for two weeks. As soon as I switched on my laptop I noticed that the laptop is not smooth as it was, I mean everything was very jittery, i was scared asf as what if they had remove some important components. But that's not the case, everything was in there but still the laptop was not performing up to the mark.

I still continued to use it for next 2 months cause I had my exams and could not risk wasting time on the issue. Then I tried to reinstall windows using the flash drive, and I could not. I mean I have experience installaling windows and I am sure I am following the right process.

But the laptop was getting stuck at " Getting files ready for installation" and after a min or so it would shut down automatically.

Yes automatically.

I tried multiple times with different usb's and software, used media creation tool, Rufus, etcher etc.

But to no avail, and I didn't had any os anymore on the laptop as I had formatted the disk.

So I tried Linux and it installed on one single Go, now I was tired and procastinated to install windows and just used Linux mint for 3 months straight..

Now yesterday I had a test which had to be given on a software and it needed windows to run, I tried to install windows but it didn't..

The same error again, "Getting Files ready for installation", it would stuck and shut down..

Here's the list of what I have done,

  1. Tried using the different ram stick

  2. Boot of another old SSD, the laptop did boot with windows and I was on windows desktop, but I was constantly shutting down in less than 2 mins.

  3. Updated bios, the previous version was F.21 and not it's F.21.A

My point is that if I boot into windows using a flash drive or an old windows SSD, it's will shut down in less than 2 mins.

Tried everything which I can think off, and cannot find any working solution..

Hi @Shivamm001,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Victus 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop is experiencing some serious issues. Given the symptoms you’ve described—especially the automatic shutdowns and problems reinstalling Windows—it’s possible that there might be a hardware issue, possibly related to overheating or power supply problems.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot further.

Check for Overheating:

  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: Make sure the laptop’s vents are not blocked and the cooling fans are functioning properly.
  • Clean the Vents: Dust accumulation can cause overheating. Use compressed air to clean out the vents and fans.
  • Monitor Temperatures: If you can boot into Linux or use a bootable diagnostic tool, check the temperature readings to see if the laptop is overheating.

Check Power Supply:

  • Verify Power Adapter: Ensure that your power adapter is functioning correctly and providing the correct voltage. Try using a different adapter if possible.
  • Check Battery Health: If your laptop battery is degraded, it might cause stability issues. If the battery is removable, try booting with the battery removed and just the power adapter connected.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Built-in Diagnostics: HP laptops often come with built-in diagnostic tools that you can access during startup (usually by pressing F2 or Esc). Run a full hardware diagnostic to check for any issues.
  • Third-Party Tools: If you can boot into Linux, you can use tools like memtest86 for memory testing and smartctl for checking the health of your SSD.

Inspect Hardware Components:

  • Reseat Components: Reseat the RAM, SSD, and any other removable components. Sometimes, loose connections can cause issues.
  • Check for Physical Damage: Ensure there are no loose or damaged internal components, especially since the laptop was recently handled by a repair service.

Test with Minimal Setup:

  • Boot with Minimum Components: Try booting with only the essential components connected (e.g., one stick of RAM and the SSD) to see if the problem persists.

Update or Roll Back BIOS:

  • BIOS Version: While you updated to BIOS version F.21.A, try rolling back to the previous version (F.21) to see if it makes a difference. BIOS updates can sometimes introduce issues.

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • SSD Firmware: Make sure the SSD firmware is up to date. Sometimes firmware updates can resolve compatibility issues.

Test Boot Media:

  • Create New Installation Media: Even though you’ve tried different USB drives, ensure the installation media is properly created using the latest version of the Windows Media Creation Tool.

Consider a Full Reinstallation:

  • Secure Erase and Reinstall: If you can access Linux, try using tools like GParted to securely erase all partitions on the SSD before attempting a fresh Windows installation.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
