Hi @EmrysTD,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out, and we understand how confusing it can be when your OMEN 25L requires a USB key just to access the BIOS or update it. We’ll clarify this and help you move forward safely.

Thank you for providing your details. Here's the direct link to the software & drivers page for your OMEN by HP Desktop PC 25L (GT11-0000i):
🔗 OMEN 25L Desktop - GT11-0012na Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Also, here’s the official HP document that shows how to create a BIOS USB recovery drive and how the BIOS update process works:
🔗 HP Notebook PCs - Recovering the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) | HP® Support

How to update the BIOS (general outline)

  1. Use the link above to download the latest BIOS update file for your PC model.
  2. While in Windows, save the BIOS update file and run it (follow on-screen prompts).
  3. If asked to create a USB recovery drive, plug in a blank USB flash drive and follow the instructions to build the recovery media.
  4. Restart your PC and let the update run. Your computer may power off/restart multiple times and display a progress bar.
  5. After completion, your PC should boot normally. Then you may enter BIOS (usually by pressing F10 at startup) to verify the version.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

Thanks for the reply......

I have managed to update the bios on my machine and as far as i know my Bios is working fine but it looks as (Version F28 from F23 )  thought I have blamed the bios wrongly. Let be explain. I thought the bios was causing a problem with the booting up of my computer this obviously is not the case with the real problem being  that on start up I cannot get into the bios by using the ESC .F10 , F9, F11  keys (Using one at a time) also on shut down the PC will not shut down - the external light and the fans will not go out unless I turn the power of.  As I said I thought the bios was causing the problem but now I believe the problem is something else.........Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks again for your earlier post

Hi @EmrysTD,

Thank you for getting back and letting me know that you still have trouble. Please try to run the hardware test on the pc and let me know the result to help you further.

Extensive Test -

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
3. On the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) main menu, click System Tests.
4. Click Extensive Test.

Take care and have an amazing day!
