OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop PC GT22-1000i (6C1R8AV)

I have tried to activate XMP (both profile 1 and 2) 1 year back when I got the machine and this week. Since it did not work initially when I got the machine I did not try any more and used the computer on 4000 MHz only. Maybe it was something I did wrong that caused the problems.

But this week I tried to do it again (since it bothers me that I run 4000 MHz when it is supposed to work at 5200 MHz DDR5). But the problems were exactly the same where I either cannot even start the computer, bluescreens or crashing while starting up Windows 11.

I also ran a memtest (the troubleshooting tools from HP in UEFI mode) and the memtest failed within 2 minutes with memory failure.

So I contacted the support, gav them the background, the error code, photos of it and everything. But they me there is nothing they can do and referred me to contact  Intel. Is this really the way it should be? The machine was sold (and is sold) with the selling point of XMP DDR5 with XMP profiles as part of the product. Is it not supported? What is Intel going to help me with if I contact them?

Anyway I would of course like to solve the problem and have XMP enabled so it leaves me a bit frustrated since I spend alot of money to buy this machine one year ago.

(I did extend my warranty to 3 years when I bought the machine so it shouldnt be the reason they ask me to go to Intel instead).

Hi @Kjellaren,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

The issues you're describing suggest there could be an incompatibility or a fault with the memory modules or the motherboard's handling of XMP profiles. Here's how you can proceed:

1. Recheck XMP Compatibility

  • Ensure your RAM is on the motherboard's Qualified Vendor List (QVL) for 5200 MHz operation.
  • Verify the exact specs of the memory kit (timing, voltage, etc.) align with what the system and XMP profiles are designed to support.

2. Update BIOS

  • Update the BIOS for your PC by clicking on the link.

Make sure you keep only the charger plugged in while updating the BIOS for your PC.

Click on the + sign next to BIOS and then download the file.

Open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the update.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!

Hi Irwin,

Thank you for the response.

Update1: I just found a guy on the forum with exactly same problem as me: XMP - bitlocker recovery - reboot on powering on - cmos reco... - HP Support Community - 9001833 . So my problem cannot be unknown to HP?

Update2: I followed the mentioned threads instructions, using dimm slot 2 and 4 only. Right away the machine said the memories was 4400 MHz (otherwise 4000 MHz with all slots used). I activated XMP profile 1. I have rebooted the machine, turned it off, used it for about 1-2 hours now (heavily) and no blue screen, no strange things yet. So right now it seems this configuration works?
So does that mean the motherboard has problems? Not all 45L users seem to have this issue.

The memory in the machine is the memory machine was shipped with. I have to assume the memory is compatible since the hardware is what was shipped in the 45L. Or do you mean it could be that HP sent me wrong memory? All hardware in the machine is from factory, nothing changed.

I have the latest BIOS, latest drivers and nothing from HP Support Assistant to patch.

The memory sticks are:

4 x 16GB 1Rx8 XMP5-5200-UA0-1010-XT

(HP52E40S8HM-16FRAE AM)

I have tried to reseat the memory sticks and even switched places of the DIMMs just to see if anything changed.

So everything says it should work with XMP, even the memory product name is XMP.

I asked the support over and over if it could be a hardware problem (since memory testing with XMP enabled directly gave me errors in memtest) but never got any direct answer on it.

So what do I do? The support says I need to contact Intel support and not HP, which is frustrating.

(Note1. I did try to find any documentation on HP website that contains list of memory modules supported for my "OMEN by HP 45L Gaming Desktop GT22-1097no" but in all documents delivered in product support page shows general information. The only document touching on the topic was the Hardware Reference Model. That document even talked about DDR4 and just one single memory module which is not even what is in the machine. So, cannot find any list with supported memory modules for my machine on HP websites.)
