Just sharing my experience at a client site:

HP Z4 came with HP 1TB SSD drive which works fine and boots into Windows 10 normally.

I added a new Samsung 500GB SSD to SATA port of the MB so I could create a back up clone.

When I started the PC, the dotted circle at boot up kept turning and OS never loaded.

I thought I might be dealing with a bad Samsung drive.

I returned the Samsung and got a new 1TB Samsung SSD.

Plugged it into Sata port, and the same problem!

Bios could detect the Samsung.

I connected the new 1TB Samsung to Corsair SATA to USB adaptor and connect it to the PC USB port. Windows 10 could detect the drive. That wasn't a solution for me because I needed to connect the new SSD into Sata port. I did this test to prove to myself that the new ssd is good.

I tried a WD 500GB SSD and connected it to SATA port of PC. Surprisingly it worked fine. I mean PC booted up with HP SSD and I could format the WD SSD and clone onto it (my cloning sw can resize).

Then I tested the newly cloned WD by itself and I could boot with it into W10.

I am not sure the reason, but it seems to me that for some reason, this PC did not like Samsung SSDs.

Sorry, I don't have access to the client pc any more so I can't provide its SN or other details.

I thought to share this experience, in case it might be helpful to others.
