Yesterday I went to turn on my Z820 and nothing happened. I hadn't used it for a while and it had been unplugged since the last use (I powered it down normally after the last use).
I pulled the power supply and plugged it in and the green LED lit up. However, when I re-inserted the power supply into the computer and plugged it in the green power LED does notT come on. I have no idea what could be going on.
The only thing that seems to me to be a long shot is last Wednesday we had a brutal thunderstorm and there was a lightning strike nearby. By nearby, I mean probably within 750-1,000 feet of the cabin the Z820 is in. That strike tripped the breakers on my power pedestal and took down my well pump. I called a pump electrician and was concerned the pump itself was fried. Fortunately the pump has a surge suppressor and that saved the day. When the well guy opened the control panel for the pump, the lightning strike actually blew the ground wire completely off the connection and scorched the control panel where it was located. Fortunately, the pump and the control unit itself fired up normally as soon as he re-attached the ground wire and we reset the circuit breaker.
The cabin where the Z820 is located is less than 100 feet from the electric pedestal and the pump. Is it possible that lightning strike could have impacted the Z820, even though it wasn't plugged into the grid at the time?
Any other suggestions?
