Hi @dhruv52

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're facing an issue with updating your BIOS, and even though your laptop eventually powers on, the BIOS update isn't going through as expected. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you troubleshoot and recover your BIOS, along with options for recovery if the update didn’t go as planned.Step 1: Ensure You Have the Correct BIOS Version

First, make sure you have the correct BIOS update file for your laptop model. Here’s how to ensure that:

Go to the Official HP Website:

  • Visit the HP Support website.
  • Enter your laptop model number (e.g., HP Envy, HP Pavilion, etc.).
  • Go to Drivers & Downloads and choose the BIOS section.
  • Download the latest BIOS update for your specific laptop model.

Double-Check the Version:

  • Sometimes, downloading the wrong version (for another model) can cause issues. Make sure the update is specifically for your exact model.

Step 2: Update BIOS Using Windows (If Laptop Boots)

If your laptop eventually boots but you’re still having issues with the BIOS update, try updating it through Windows.

  1. Download the BIOS Update File from the HP website (as mentioned in Step 1).
  2. Run the Update File: The BIOS update is usually packaged as an executable (.exe). Double-click the file to start the update process.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to proceed with the update.

Warning: Do NOT turn off your laptop during the update process! It is crucial to let the BIOS update complete, as interrupting it can cause serious issues with your laptop.

Step 3: Recover BIOS Using HP's BIOS Recovery Tool

If your BIOS update has failed or if your laptop is stuck due to a corrupted BIOS, HP offers a built-in recovery method for BIOS issues. Here’s how to recover the BIOS:

Turn off your laptop.

Press and Hold the Windows + B Keys (simultaneously).

While holding the keys, press the Power Button to turn on your laptop.

Keep holding Windows + B until you see a HP BIOS Recovery screen (this may take a few seconds). You should see a prompt indicating that the laptop is attempting to recover the BIOS.

Follow the On-Screen Instructions:

  • If you have the BIOS recovery file on a USB drive, the system will automatically detect it and begin the recovery process.
  • If you don’t have the BIOS recovery file on a USB drive, it might attempt to download the BIOS from the internet (if your laptop has internet connectivity).

Wait for the process to finish. The laptop should restart automatically once the BIOS recovery is complete.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
