Hi @XCUnknown ,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're facing issues with the boot configuration of your HP Pavilion desktop PC. Let's try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem step by step:
1. Check Boot Order in BIOS/UEFI:
- Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI by pressing the designated key (often Esc, F2, F10, or Del) during the boot process.
- Once in the BIOS/UEFI, navigate to the "Boot" or "Boot Order" section.
- Ensure that the correct drive (where your Windows is installed) is set as the first boot device.
2. Repair Windows Boot Configuration:
- Insert your Windows installation media (USB/DVD) and restart your computer.
- Enter the BIOS/UEFI and make sure the system is set to boot from the installation media.
- Choose the "Repair your computer" option.
- Go to "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt."
- In the Command Prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each:
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
- Exit the Command Prompt and restart your computer.
3. Check SATA and Power Cables:
- Ensure that the SATA and power cables connected to your SSD and other drives are securely attached.
4. Check for Bootable SSD:
- If your SSD is not showing up in the boot menu, it might be an issue with its boot record.
- Boot from a Windows installation USB/DVD.
- In the installation screen, go to "Repair your computer" > "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt."
- In the Command Prompt, type:
- Ensure that your SSD has an active partition. If not, set it as active:
- Exit the Command Prompt and restart.
5. Switch to UEFI Mode:
- If your system is currently set to Legacy mode, try switching to UEFI.
- Enter the BIOS/UEFI, navigate to the "Boot" or "Boot Order" section, and change the boot mode to UEFI.
6. Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Check if there's a BIOS/UEFI update available for your motherboard on the HP support website.
- If an update is available, follow the instructions provided by HP to update your BIOS/UEFI.
7. Data Backup:
If you can access your data using a live USB, consider backing up important files before proceeding with major changes.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.-
