I cloned my HD to a new Samsung 500GB SSD. When I put it in place of my HD and start it, it comes up with a black screen. I cloned it via a USB-SATA cable. The Samsung Magician says it is a good copy ready. When I try to go into the BIOS setup, it omes up to a fixed screen listing several things and to press escape for boot menu. I press escape and nothing happens. I tried it several times inluding hitting the F10 key with same results. The new SSD is hooked up to my sata cable and power. After trying to boot up several times and failed, I tried going into the BIOS several times and failed. I gave up, hooked up the old HD to the same SATA cable and it booted just fine, and here I am.

Hi @Davido321
Certain HP Consumer PCs have, what seems to be, unsolvable disk recognition problems when installing various SATA SSDs. It appears you have this problem.
Since your MB does not support M.2 drives I would suggest trying a HP SATA SSD.
I am out of ideas to solve the problem if a HP SATA SSD does not work.
You will have to try free disk cloning or disk imaging software to clone or image copy the HDD system disk to a HP SATA SSD. I now use Paragon free to create disk images. I used to use Macrium but it is no longer free for personal use.

Thank you for the reply. I have been chasing myself around and around for three days. I just wanted a little faster response to my PC so I thought I'd replace my 1TB Hard drive (using only 79GB) with this 500GB Sata. I used the Samsung software to clone etc. - finally bit the bullet and asked for help. This explains a lot, I accept the fact that I have "One of Those" computers - HP 260-133w that will not accept this 2.5" SATA SSD. Thank you for your help and information. Davido321
