HP All-in-One PC 24-dd0000a (7WY98AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently replaced my desktop screen after the ribbon cable ripped off the older screens board. Afterwards, when i try to turn the desktop on, it doesn’t power on and all i get is a single led flash and a short humming noise from inside the computer(either from the fan or the disc drive, i cant tell.). I tried a hard reset, but that didnt work. The led on the back lights up when the ac adapter is plugged in, so its receiving power, but it refuses to turn on.

Hi @solargrave,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

It sounds like your HP All-in-One PC 24-dd0000a is receiving power but isn’t turning on after the screen replacement, which could be caused by a few factors related to hardware or connections. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Check the Display Connections

  • Recheck Ribbon Cable: Since the ribbon cable was previously damaged and replaced, double-check that the new cable is securely connected on both the screen and motherboard side. Any loose or improper connection could prevent the system from powering on.
  • Inspect for Damage: Inspect the new cable and connectors for any visible damage or bent pins that could be causing a short or improper connection.

2. Check for Short Circuits

  • Inspect for Shorts: When replacing the screen, ensure no cables or components are shorting against the metal parts of the chassis. A short circuit can prevent the computer from powering up properly and may cause the single LED flash you're seeing.

3. Test with External Display

  • Connect to External Monitor: If you can, connect the All-in-One PC to an external monitor via HDMI or another video output to see if the system is running but just not displaying anything on the internal screen.

4. Check for Loose Components

  • Reseat Components: After replacing the screen, something inside may have come loose. Open up the back of the computer and ensure that all components like RAM, hard drive, and power connectors are securely seated.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @solargrave,

Please find the remaining steps below.

5. Perform Power Drain

  • Disconnect Power and Drain Residual Power:
    1. Unplug the power cord from the computer.
    2. Press and hold the Power button for 15–30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
    3. Plug the power cord back in and attempt to turn it on.

6. Check Power Supply

  • AC Adapter & Power Supply: The fact that the LED on the back lights up when the AC adapter is plugged in suggests the power supply is working, but it’s still worth testing a different AC adapter if possible to rule out a power issue.
  • Test Power Button: Ensure the power button itself is functioning properly and isn’t stuck or damaged.

7. Listen for Error Beeps or Indicators

  • When you try to turn on the system, listen for any beep codes or visual indicators (such as flashing LED patterns). These can often indicate specific hardware issues, like a failed component or a power delivery problem.

8. Motherboard or Power Circuit Issues

  • Check for Motherboard Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, it’s possible there is damage to the motherboard or power circuits. The short hum you hear could be a failed attempt to power up the system, and the LED flash could indicate a failure in the startup process.

By going through these steps, you should be able to identify if there’s a connection issue, a short circuit, or a deeper hardware problem causing your HP All-in-One PC to fail to power on.

If none of the troubleshooting steps work, the issue could be related to the internal power delivery circuits or other hardware damage from the screen replacement process. At this point, you may need to contact HP phone support for further assistance and repair.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
