Sorry, but we're not repair technicians here -- so we can't give you any help on wiring in jumpers to fix this issue.
This is going to be REALLY HARD to fix! Why? Because to wire in jumpers safely, you need the schematics for the motherboard and since HP considers those proprietary information, no repair shop is going to be able to get them.
And HP would not do this for you because this is a custom request on your part -- they would expect you to pay for a new screen and also pay to have it replaced.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

TLDR: try disconnecting the built in display's data ribbon cable on the motherboard but leave the backlight cable connected.
I have the same situation.
I accidently discovered that if the display ribbon cable is unhooked from the motherboard the computer will boot and use the HDMI port AFTER the OS fires up and kicks in.
No boot screen, or white HP logo on black background on the HDMI monitor. The computer will boot and it just wakes up the external monitor and it kicks in on the Windows sign-in screen.
The backlight cable between motherboard and display panel must REMAIN CONNECTED. If the backlight cable is disconnected the computer will only blink the power LED and not even try to boot.
I stumbled across this several hours ago, so no idea how feasible it is as a longer term solution.

thanks but if i leave the backlight cable attached means i still have to have the broken screen as well when what i want to do is get rid of the screen altogether so i can disable the board to make it smaller on another monitor
