@oiphy2,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Base Model Desktop Mini PC as per: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04327174.pdf, is indeed equipped with an M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen3 SSD slot (see: "M.2 Solid-State Drive" on page 51):

Btw, Crucial suggests that this M.2 slot IS compatible with M.2 NVMe SSDs: HP - Compaq HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Desktop Mini | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com.

How to make your HP EliteDesk 800 G1 Mini to boot from your M.2 NVMe SSD:

1.) Make sure you have the latest BIOS installed from the HP Support site.

2.) Install your M.2 NVMe SSD and format/activate it in Disk Management.

3.) Clone your current primary (boot) drive to your M.2 NVMe SSD using Macrium Reflect Free.

4.) Restart your PC and tap-tap F10 until you get to BIOS. Go to the Advanced Options screen.

5.) If you do not have ACHI selected as the original boot drive method, do so. Save, Restart and keep tapping away F10 again to access BIOS.

6.) At the Options screen, select boot drive options and select your M.2 NVMe SSD as your boot drive if it shows up.

FYI: If you do not see your M.2 NVMe SSD as a boot drive option, try changing your BIOS setting to ACPI, UEFI, Legacy, auto, etc. Try each one. Even if it won't boot. Point is, you're looking to see if there is ANY BIOS setting that will make your M.2 NVMe SSD appear in the BIOS boot menu.

7.) Shut down your PC.

8.) Remove your old HDD or SSD that has your original OS on it.

9.) Boot up your PC and it see if it boots up.

10.) Once that is working out, erase (reformat) your old HDD or SSD and reinstall as a secondary drive.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
