Elitedesk 800 G4 tower. This unit came with 256 GB M.2 PCIe NVMe 2280 as the boot drive installed in one of 2 side by side PCle NVMe connectors. A problem occurs when I install a second M.2 500Gb PCI Express 3.0 x4 drive into the other M.2 slot. The computer freezes on boot up, stalling at the blue HP screen. If I remove the second M.2 drive, start up completes without any problems.
The information printed on each SSD indicates they are both NVMe, however they are keyed differently. The original drive has B + M key (x2 ??) whereas the second is keyed M (x4).
My questions.
Do separate M.2 connectors need to have matched SSDs installed (both B + M)?
Can a boot M.2 drive be run alongside a storage drive at the same time? (lane sharing issue?)
I can’t find a motherboard manual to confirm that PCIe 3.0 x 4 is supported. Is a manual available?
Does a setting in the bios need to be changed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
