OK so I have an oldPC and it was working fine this morning. I am setting it up to replace my old VERY slow work PC. I wanted to verify that it only had 16gb ram so I shut everything down and pulled the memory out. I do indeed have 16gb.
Now is the issue, I placed the ram back in the same slots, and when I tried to turn the PC back on I got the 3 long beeps followed by 2 shorts. "Ram failure" I have tried all the steps, 1 at a time in different slots as there are 4 and nothing. So I went out and bought new DD4 ram to replace them. Seat the new ram in and same issue. Exact same code. I have blown out all the slots to make sure they are clean from dust, tried seating new and old ram in every slot alone and together and nothing.
At this point I am thinking something shorted on the board. Can anyone confirm my diagnosis before I am forced to go buy ANOTHER new computer PLEASE.
Thank you
Wayne

well I advise you to see with other modules!
if sometimes this is not a problem, non-compatible modules may not work

16 GB
- Amount: 16 GB
- Speed: PC4-17000 MB/s
- Type: DDR4-2133
Memory upgrade information
- Dual channel memory architecture
- Four DDR4 DIMM (288-pin) sockets
- Supports PC4-17000 (DDR4-2133)
- Supports 2 GB, 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB DDR4 DIMMs
- Supports up to 4 GB on 32-bit systems
note:
32-bit systems cannot address a full 4.0 GB of memory. - Supports up to 64 GB (unbuffered) on 64-bit computers
but indeed a strong risk that it is the motherboard which is damaged

hi
before buying a new computer, try to consult a professional.
I think you've done the steps you need for this type of problem.
the only thing, and it is difficult to confirm, if your new modules are not compatible, it can happen!
But you can be victim of a problem of static electricity, bad handling!

Yes I do understand getting it looked at, I would just be surprised if it was a problem with the ram as I HAD 2 8gb chips in there this morning, and the chance that BOTH would fail at the same time would be quite low. This is why it leading me to believe something happened to the MB during me removing and replacing the ram. My fault or not, I am leaning that way 😞 The difference with the new ram as apposed to the old is the old are 2133ghz and the new are 3200. Could be a problem but from what the guy at Canada computers told me, it shouldn't be an issue as the 2133 are way out of date and both are ddr4, I have anopther old PC at home which may have some old ram in it so before I do anything I will check to see if that is compatible and give it a shot. aside from that I may just buy a new MB
Thanks for the comment

You nailed it Promethee 😄 When I got home I took the 2x 8gb ddr4 3200 out of my brand new pc and put them in the old one having issues and boom all is good in the world. So my brand new pc at home gets an extra 16gb of RAM lol.
Thanks for your help. The new ram I bought was 2x16gb so just too much for that ole board. gonna have to give the canada computers guy a little "what for" if i see him again lol

Sorry translation problem!
so in the end I don't know if I understand correctly and that your computer is working again!
so if that's the case, I'm glad I was able to help you, and that it doesn't go to the scrapyard (trash)!
