HP All-in-One 27 Desktop PC 27-cb0000a (3B5K5AV)

my all-in-one turns on for about 4 seconds then it turns off. I don't have enough time to go into the BIOS screen or whatever it's called. I don't know if it is relevant but I used my PC all day

Hi @L29uke,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your all-in-one computer turns on for only 2-4 seconds and then shuts off, it could be due to several issues. Here’s a systematic approach to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the problem:

1. Check Power Supply

  • Verify Power Connection: Ensure that the power cable is securely connected to both the computer and the power outlet.
  • Try a Different Outlet: Plug the power cable into a different outlet to rule out an issue with the power source.

2. Inspect Power Cable and Adapter

  • Check for Damage: Inspect the power cable and adapter for any visible signs of damage or wear. Replace them if necessary.
  • Use a Different Power Cable/Adapter: If you have a spare power cable or adapter, try using it to see if the problem persists.

3. Check for Loose Internal Connections

  • Disconnect and Reconnect Components: If you’re comfortable opening the computer, disconnect and then reconnect the internal components such as RAM, hard drive, and any other removable parts.
  • Reseat RAM and Storage: Sometimes, reseating the RAM modules and storage drives can resolve power issues.

4. Inspect for Overheating

  • Ensure Proper Ventilation: Make sure that the computer has adequate ventilation and is not overheating. Clean any dust from the vents and fans.
  • Check Fan Operation: Ensure that the internal fans are working properly. A failing fan could cause the computer to shut off to prevent overheating.

5. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power Off: Disconnect the power cable and any external devices.
  2. Hold Power Button: Press and hold the power button for about 30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  3. Reconnect and Power On: Reconnect the power cable and try turning on the computer again.

6. Check for BIOS or Hardware Issues

  • Listen for Beeps: If your computer emits any beep codes when attempting to start, refer to your computer’s manual or manufacturer’s website for details on what the beeps mean.
  • Examine the BIOS Battery: If your computer’s BIOS battery is dead, it may cause startup issues. Consider replacing the battery if applicable..

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
