@MD95 -- try this:

  1. power-off the computer
  2. start tapping the ESC key (top-left of keyboard)
  3. press the ON/OFF button
  4. when the computer starts, does it display a menu that includes "run HP Hardware Diagnostics"
  5. if so, choose to run that option

Results?

@MD95 -- compare reading/writing to RAM to writing onto a greasy piece of paper -- you cannot read what you wrote.

Similarly, your computer cannot read from some of the RAM. This causes the "crashes".

If your computer has multiple sticks of RAM, remove all but one stick, and rerun the "extensive RAM test".

If it fails, that one stick is "bad".

If it completes, shutdown, put that stick into your "good" pile, insert a different stick into the same RAM slot, and rerun the

test.

If it fails, that one stick is "bad".

Repeat, for each stick (2? 4?) of RAM.
