how do you resolve a smart disk check that has detected an imminent failure?

S.M.A.R.T. is software embedded on the disk-drive to self-monitor the "health" of the disk-drive.

If you are getting a report from S.M.A.R.T., you disk-drive is in "imminent failure" mode.

You need to replace the disk-drive.

Sometimes, the disk-drive has enough residual "life" for you to use software like "Macrium Reflect" to make a "clone" of the disk-drive onto the brand-new disk-drive. Then, boot your computer from the new disk-drive.

The advise given by @itsmyname is sound.

If the replacement of the hard drive is not done immediately , it will fail and all data will be lost.

Hello
the hard drive is defective
It can continue to operate for a certain time, but it can definitively break down, if it is not already the case!
If possible, save personal data
Try a full reinstall
Be careful even if it works, it may permanently break down, save the data regularly.
This may allow you to use the computer while you find a hard drive!
