I have an HP Envy Desktop about three years old I just got it, was working fine then I tried to use the second slot for more RAM and when it didn't work I took it out and then when I tried to boot up I just get two loud beeps with white lights followed by three softer beeps with white lights for five iterations, but nothing comes on screen. The computer then just find the fans and nothing happens. I'm not very good with software yet, hardware I have little idea. Can't afford a repair is there anything I can do?

@Spettsnaz, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding HP Envy Desktop – Beeping with White Lights After RAM Change, Won’t Boot!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

From what you’ve described — two sharp beeps followed by three softer ones, repeating five times with white LED flashes — your HP Envy Desktop is likely indicating a memory (RAM) issue.

Let’s try this together, step by step. No tools needed other than patience and a gentle touch:

🛠️ What to do:

Power Off Completely
Unplug the system and press the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge any leftover electricity.

Reseat the RAM

Open the side panel carefully.

Gently remove all the RAM sticks.

Now, firmly reinsert just one stick into its original slot — listen for that satisfying click on both sides.

Leave the other slot empty for now.

Try Booting
Plug it back in and power up. Do you still hear the beeps?

If yes, power off again and try the same RAM stick in the other slot.

If no beeps and you see the screen light up, it’s a good sign! Shut down and try adding the second stick again, one at a time.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
