HP Compaq 6300 MT
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi. I'm wondering if 1866mhz ram would work on HP Compaq 6300 MT? When I search for "compatible upgrades" on Crucial for my PC it lists 1866mhz ram but I thought I read that this PC has a max speed of 1600mhz.

Hi:

Personally, I would love you to experiment with that speed.

Here's why... If your PC has an Intel 3rd gen core processor, it should run the memory at 1600 MHz.

But anyone on this forum who has installed 1600 MHz memory in the 6300 Pro or 8300 Elite reports it only runs at 1333 MHz.

For example...

But I read somewhere (not on this forum), that someone experimented with an 1866 Mhz memory module, and it ran at 1600 MHz as it should have.

Apparently 1866 MHz memory will work if you do not have an old BIOS version installed.

This person had to update the BIOS before the memory worked...
