I purchased a 2-port usb 3.0 add-on from Amazon and plugged in to the 20-pin usb port on the motherboard. The new ports do not work. I have checked for bent pins and tight connection but all looks good. Do I have to active that port on the motherboard or am I missing something? Thanks for any suggestions.

@K8VL , welcome to the forum.
What is the full model or product number of the computer? I need this information to review the specifications of it. Please don't furnish the Serial # or other personal information. Here is a guide to help you find it: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07555
Also, it would help if you would provide a link to the USB 3.0 add-on card.

You are welcome, @K8VL!
It appears from the diagram of the motherboard that you would have to attach the new component to the "Front USB 3.0 header". If this is so, you shouldn't have to do anything in the BIOS. It seems to be so straight-forward that I can't see any reason for problems. I suggest that you contact the manufacturer's Tech Support to see what they have to say: https://www.riitop.com/pages/contact-us
They are the experts on their products.
