I purchased this desktop PC on recommendations of my brother who owns the same machine (shortly after he bought it in 2023).  For the past year, the machine will randomly shut down and will not restart without unplugging it and leaving it unplugged for a period of time.  I searched your forums and apparently my brother and I are not the only ones having the exact same issue.  I'm wondering what the solution to this problem is.  I'm considering purchasing (which is ridiculous since it's defective from the factory) a new power supply in hopes that this will solve the problem.  Can you let me know if you have a solution to this problem or if buying a (non-defective) new power supply will solve the issue?

@MarkKl1, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Hard Reset

Turn off the PC and unplug it from the wall.

Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.

Plug it back in and turn it on.

Check Power Supply

Ensure the power cable is plugged in securely.

Try plugging the PC into a different outlet.

If you’re comfortable, check the power supply connections inside the PC.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Go to HP’s support website and make sure your BIOS and drivers are up-to-date.

Run Hardware Diagnostics

Turn the PC on and press Esc to open the startup menu.

Select Diagnostics or press F2 to run tests on your hardware.

Disable Fast Startup (Windows 10/11)

Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.

Uncheck Turn on fast startup and save changes.

Test in Safe Mode

Boot into Safe Mode to check if a software or app is causing the issue.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

It did not work and apparently this is a known issue for lots of people.  Just let me know if replacing the power supply will solve the issue or if the problem exists somewhere else in your system.  I'll either be buying a new power supply on Black Friday or a replacement for this faulty computer that I've had trouble with since about 2 weeks after I bought it.
