Hello !
I have an HP TG01-1183w Desktop [ Desktop Specs ]
It has this motherboard: [ Motherboard Specs ]
From my understanding, this means that this means that it will support 2166Mhz, 2666MHZ, and 2966Mhz speeds. Anything above that should downclock to the board max of 2966Mhz.
The problem/question that I have is this:
The RAM that came with the PC is a stick of 3200, which *should* downclock to the board max of 2966MHz. It's downclocking directly to 2666Mhz. Does that mean that the actual true max speed of the board is actually 2666MHz ? I do not want to spend for RAM that is 2966MHz (which should be the board maximum,) only to have it downlocked to 2666MHz.
Cheers !
Paul

Your HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1183w PC (328S2AA) as fitted with the Baker motherboard with SSID: 8767, can support up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, UDIMM, 288-pin RAM sticks. I would strongly recommend using matching RAM (same brand, model and capacity) to take full advantage of the dual-channel mode. [EDIT]
On a sidenote, max RAM speed is also determined by your processor. Even though your desktop can run RAM up to 2933 MHz, some processor options -such as an i3-10100 or the i5-10500, only supports up to 2666 MHz, whereas an i7-10700 allows up to 2933 MHz RAM speed.
[EDIT:] Here are a couple of recommended RAM options running at 2933 MHz with the best performance I found here: UserBenchmark: HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop TG01-1xxx Compatible Components: Hynix HMA81GU6DJR8N-XN 2x8GB, Hynix HMA82GU6CJR8N-XN 2x16GB, Kingston HyperX KHX3200C18D4/16G 2x16GB, and Crucial CT32G4DFD832A.M16FF 2x31.5GB.
Hope this was helpful.
Kind Regards,
