HP Pavillion 550-a114
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After turning on the screen in black with a message w/ computer info and ends with 511-CPU Fan Not Detected. There is an option to hit F1. Computer will then run, but it also will run if I just turn it off and then on again (message not seen again).

Both fans are running.

Best Buy cleaned and checked it and did not find any problems nor overheating.

I ran my Windows Troubleshooting and nothing was found.

Searched for BIOS updates but they seem to be incompatible after I download them.

My current BIOS version is VAO.10 BIOS Revision Date 10/07/2015.

Computer is working fine. Can I safely continue?

Moderators, please provide a specific link to update BIOS if this will fix my problem.

@macoducky,

Thank you for posting your query on HP Community,

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

You can use a can of compressed air to clean out all of the dust from all fans in the PC.  With the side panel off, power on the PC and again observe the fan rotational speed.  What do you see? slow, medium or high rotational speeds?

Open up the RUN Windows and enter: MSINFO32

Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

Turn on your PC keep tapping the F10 key, you will boot into BIOS.

From the main or file menu select restore defaults.

Select F10 to save changes and exit.

Refer this article to know more information about CPU Fan Failed errors.

Also, try updating the BIOS on your PC and check it helps.

Update the drivers on your PC using HP support assistant.
