I have a 6200 pro mt with an i7-2600 cpu 32GB.

a) Will an Nvidi Quadro k2000 work?

b) If not what is the best card for this case?

Have fun,

Paxton

@jpaxtons,

According to the specs, the stock power supply for an HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT is a 320-watt unit.

Yes, a 320-watt power supply can easily power a Nvidia Quadro K2000 2GB GDDR5 graphics card which has a low 51-watt TDP and doesn't require a PCIe power supply cable.

Greetings!

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post.

However I did not make myself clear.  I know there is no issue with power, but was asking about compatibility as I am so far unable to get the machine to recognize the card (it does not show in device manager) and with the card not recognizable, the Nvidia driver will not load.  I had a Geforce GT 710 in the same slot and it was recognized and worked fine.

Thus, my question.

Have fun,

Paxton

@jpaxtons,

I see -thank you for the clarification.

OK, first of all, a Nvidia Quadro K2000 is compatible with your system, as this HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT user shows: HP Compaq 6200 Pro MT PC Performance Results - UserBenchmark.

Things for you to check:

  1. Disable Slot Security in BIOS: the 6200 series has a System Security → Slot Security setting. In default configurations, "Enabled" can actually prevent PCIe graphics cards from being recognized. Disable Slot Security for PCIe slots and reboot to see if the GPU enumerates.

  2. Update BIOS to latest official release: 02.33 Rev A.

  3. Try enabling legacy GPU/CSM BIOS option if present.

  4. Reseat the GPU.

  5. Without any graphics cards, run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) first, restart your PC, and try the Quadro K2000 again.

  6. The most recent Quadro K2000 driver (scroll down): https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PCs-Workstations-and-Point-of-Sale-Systems/Nvidia-Quadro-K200....

Greetings!

Thank you so much for your kind, detailed reply.  I do find the labeling on the security of the slots confusing.

I have:

re flashed the BIOS even though it was at 2.33.

I've reset CMOS many times

tried slot security both ways.

I've used DDU

I've not found a GPU/CSM BIOS option

I've carefully reseated the board several times

The k2000 works fine in another computer (z420)

Although I have the latest K2000 software from Nvidia, it won't install since it can't find the card

In the BIOS, I can not disable the onboard graphic as it is enabled and greyed out.

It the VGA settings, the onboard is listed as primary and there is no other options.

In device manager, it shows the onboard intel graphics and with hidden devices shown,

it shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.  I've seen some posts suggesting to upgrade drivers for the Microsoft Basic Adapter with the drivers for the card I want to install, but all I know how to do is run the Nvidia installer and that does not work, it can't find the card.

Any other ideas?

Have fun, Happy Holidays,

Paxton

I should add, that the GT 710 is no longer recognized either.  This all started with I upgraded the CPU to i7-2600 from i3-2100.  I got the GT 710 working once after the upgrade, but not now, a fluke it seems.

Have fun

@jpaxtons,

You have pretty much exhausted all the steps I know of, and unfortunately, to me it looks increasingly likely that your motherboard is defective.  That has nothing to do with your processor upgrade, since your motherboard is completely compatible with an i7-2600.
