Compaq Pro 6300

Someone passed on a Compaq 6300 to me.

It has been working for a while now.

I add a couple of hard drives and now it will not get to post.

I disconnect all drives.

Still will not post.

What happens is that I push the power on button, the CPU fan and back panel fan spin briefly.

On the front the hd  light ( left ) flashes for about a second. Then  the power on ( right) light flashes followed by the hd light flashing  then it goes back to the beginning.

All the lights flashing to this point are green.

All the time the 5V light on the mobo is on.

I've tried resting the CMOS.

I've also tried removing the 4 pin power connector.

That causes it to boot partially resulting in the power on button flashing red four times and beeping four times, which the manual says means the 4 pin power connector is not attached.

Any hints?

See if you can get at least the motherboard to work.

Disconnect the Optical drive: power and sata cables

Do the same for the hard drives: both data cable and power cable.

Blow out any dust off the system, remove the memory sticks and blow out the sockets

put the sticks of memory back in after cleaning gold contacts with one of those big plink erasers.

If you have any cards remove them.

Does the system have a video card?  If so pull it and connect monitor to motherboard video.

see if that fixes it and let us know.
