Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello, I'm trying to max out my memory to 16 GB.

There is currently one stick of memory (8 GB) in the system.

The problem is, the system document does not correctly match what my system has in it.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05389962

The document states I should have -

  • Amount: 8 GB
  • Speed: PC4-17000 MB/s
  • Type: DDR4-2133

I actually have - 8 GB PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400).

According to the motherboard document (Odense2-K), only Pavilion Power Chassis should support this type of ram. My computer is an OMEN.

My system is out of warranty so, I cannot directly contact HP with this problem....

I'm not sure if I should... just by another  8 GB PC4-19200 (DDR4-2400) and have it match the current stick in the system. Or by two 8 GB PC4-17000  DDR4-2133 sticks, because that's what the document says the PC should handle...

It is really confusing....

Hi:

I recommend you get another matching 2400 MHz memory module.

Most likely, those are the chips that HP had on hand.

The 2400 MHz memory modules just downclock to 2133 MHz to match the processor's FSB.

There is no harm in having 2400 MHz memory modules installed.

As a matter of fact, 2400 MHz memory is what Crucial is offering as compatible memory.

See their report below.   The PC can also take 2 x 16 GB of memory if you are interested...
