pavillion p7-1026b pc bundle
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

im trying to upgrade a pc that came as the pavillion bundle package. it came stock with phenom 2  840t has been upgraded in the past and it is currently socketed with a phenom 2 x4 905e both are am3 socketed, but the 840 had a 95 watt tdp and the 905e has a 64 watt tdp.

now needless to say i can jump back to the 95 wat rnge without much worry, assuming i use a am3 socket right? even if its a six core?

part 2, having upgrded the psu to a 600 watt psu and a (ever so slightly) beefier graphics card, is it unrealistic of me to try and put a six core , am3 socketed processor thats 125 watts tdp,?

everythhing im looking at is phenom 2 x series and all am3 socketed. im just worried about the jump from 95 watts to 125 watts being an issue.

sorry to be messy im just al scatter brained and i hope its not a super stupid question but amongst my guys im the go to and i have no one to ask things like this.

I looked over your specs.

Processor upgrade information

  • Max TDP: 95W
  • Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    NOTE:
Only Socket AM3 processors are supported with this motherboard.
    • AMD Phenom II X6 10xxT Six-Core (Thuban core)
    • AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb core)
    • AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka core)
    • AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto core)
    • AMD Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
    • AMD Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
    • AMD Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)
    • AMD Sempron Single Core 1xx (Sargas core)

Any of this CPU's will be compatible with your motherboard! so it doesnt matter if its a dual-core, quad-core, hexa-core...as long as its listed as compatible!! Good luck!

@Rapsux,

If your still around, do not put a 125W CPU chip in a CPU socket rated for only 95W.

It will overheat the voltage regulators, likely burn the motherboard. This has been discussed in the past.

I only suggested him to put a CPU from the HP Motherboard Compatibility LIst...no matter if quad-core or hexa-core...

Not to put a higher TDP CPU on a lower TDP rated socket!

Thanks
