HP 960 Ergonomic Wireless Keyboard

Hi got this 960 ergonomic keyboard set a few months ago.

It was lagging since day 1 but I thought maybe it takes me some time to get used to it. But now after using it for a while its driving me crazy.

I use it for programming, and every few minutes it disconnected and miss a few chars.

It is impossible to get official support from HP.

Anyone else having this issue, or mine is just a lemon 🍋

Thanks!

Hi @Broken-keyboard

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to deal with a lagging HP 960 Ergonomic Keyboard, especially when you rely on it for tasks like programming. Since you mentioned that the issue has persisted since day one, it’s possible there’s either a hardware issue or a problem with the connection, especially if it's a wireless keyboard. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot and fix the lagging issue:

1. Check the Battery or Power Supply

  • If it's a wireless keyboard, the issue could be related to a low or inconsistent battery.
    • Replace the batteries with fresh, high-quality ones and check if the lagging persists.
    • If it’s rechargeable, ensure it’s fully charged.

2. Change the USB Port or Receiver Location (For Wireless Keyboards)

  • If you're using a USB wireless receiver, try plugging it into a different USB port on your computer, ideally one that’s directly on the motherboard (not a USB hub).
  • If your computer is far from the receiver, try moving the receiver closer to the keyboard, or use a USB extension cable to improve the signal.

3. Update or Reinstall Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupt drivers can cause input lag.
    • Update your drivers by going to Device Manager (right-click Start menu > Device Manager) > Keyboards > HP 960 Keyboard and updating the driver.
    • If that doesn’t work, uninstall the drivers and restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the correct drivers upon reboot.

4. Check for Wireless Interference (For Wireless Keyboards)

  • Wireless keyboards are susceptible to interference from other devices, like Wi-Fi routers, microwaves, or Bluetooth devices. Try moving the keyboard or the receiver away from other electronics to minimize interference.

5. Test the Keyboard on Another Computer

  • To rule out an issue with your computer, try using the keyboard on a different computer. If the keyboard still lags, then it's likely a hardware issue with the keyboard itself.

6. Test in Safe Mode or With Minimal Startup Programs

  • Sometimes, background processes or applications can affect the performance of peripherals like keyboards.
    • Boot your computer into Safe Mode (by holding down the Shift key while restarting your computer) and see if the keyboard still lags. If it works fine in Safe Mode, it could indicate a conflict with another program or process on your system.
    • You can also disable unnecessary startup programs using Task Manager to see if that helps with performance.

I hope this helps.
