Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everybody,

I bought a new HP 975 Wireless keyboard which works as expected, except the dongle. My Windows 10 machine detects the dongle correctly, but when I hit the dongle key on the keyboard, it's not working.

I also installed the HP Accessory Center which also detects the dongle. When the keyboard is connected by bluetooth, it shows the keyboard as connected, but when I switch the connection to the dongle (within the accessory center) it is not connected anymore.

So I think it is a correct 975 dongle, but not paired with my keyboard. Some other threads saying, that mouse and keyboards come factory paired and just in special combination you can pair them with a new dongle, because it is possible to connect a mouse and keyboard to the same dongle. But what if I only have the keyboard? Is it possible to pair it with that dongle on the 975 series, or what are my options. Only send back the keyboard to get a new one?

Note: It is possible to find the keyboard with the product number on the HP website, but not with the serial number, so could it be a non original keyboard?

Thanks everybody in advance and best regards

hi

for the dongle, only except error if it is a universal dongle:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03128368
So, if not, we should not be able to use any dongle with any keyboard

If possible check with another Usb port, other computer..
Either it's a configuration problem, with the computer (usb port), or the dongle/keyboard which cannot be synchronized
check what is indicated in the documents:

Using the keyboard

Use the following procedure to pair an HP 93x Creator Wireless Mouse, HP 635 Multi-Device Wireless Mouse, or other supported mouse, and the HP 975 Dual-Mode Wireless Keyboard or the HP 970 Programmable Wireless Keyboard to your computer using the keyboard receiver. Be sure to use the correct receiver.

You may have recognition issues with product/serial numbers, but that doesn't necessarily mean a bad product.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

The dongle that comes with the keyboard is the one with the mouse and keyboard sign. But I do not have a mouse, so I can't try if it is possible to connect one with it. I found no information in the links you provided, how to "re-connect" the keyboard with that dongle.

I tried the dongle ony 3 different computers, 2 have windows 10 installed and one is a linux machine, but with no luck on all 3. The dongle is correctly detected, but the keyboard cannot connect to it (which should happen automatically, when pressing the dongle sign on the keyboard). With bluetooth, its working on all 3 computers, but thats not an option for my use case.

Any other suggestions I can do?

Thanks and best regards

I answer you frankly, sorry, I just went through the documents, did not see that there was no mention of how to make if just a keyboard
not too much idea, never tested this type of dual possibility keyboard
I have a test to do, but you say you don't have a mouse
if you mean mouse compatible with the dongle, but you have one with its own dongle, otherwise I don't see how you manage without a mouse?
in case you have a mouse that can work with the computer, so
Tried disconnecting the dongle, turning off the keyboard (I think you can't remove the battery?
disable bluetooth
restart the computer
Computer restarted, use the usb cable I did not see if it is just for charging, or if you can also use the keyboard with it?
Turn on the keyboard, check if it works
If not
turn off the computer, plug in the usb dongle, turn on the keyboard, restart the computer
If nothing, then contact the warranty support department!

I have a mouse, otherwise it would be hard to deal with the OS ;).

It is a Dell mouse which comes with a dongle, but no posibility to pair with a new one. So it has no pairing-mode. I think in this situation, it's not possible to pair the mouse with the dongel of the HP keyboard.

I nearly tried every possible combination with plug it in while OS has already started, or pc is still powered off, etc.... No luck with all of that. The only thing i forgot to test is, if you can use the keyboard with the usb charging cable not only to charge, also to use it as a wired keyboard. The keyboard uses built-in batteries, so no possibility to remove them.

So I think it's not gonna work, if there is no official possibility to pair the dongle with the keyboard again. I tried to contact the support, but I always have to type in the serial number, which as I mentioned in my first post, is not recognized as an genuine serial number. Do you know any other way to get to the support-chat?

thanks and best regards

ok

sorry, I don't see anything more that might help
maybe we are missing something very simple , but nothing found in the documents either
The detection problem to contact Hp with certain devices, still does not seem to be resolved
So, in this type of case, we report this to the moderation, which transmits the information..
So what I do, but I do not promise anything, wait a little while it is transmitted, an HP agent may contact you!
