I would like to install a Nvidia RTX-2070 Super requiring a 650 watt PSU in my Envy TE01-4354 desktop. HP has a 650watt PSU L57253-003 and L36049-003 available for an HP G4 tower. The 650watt PSU is 5.51 inches wide. The TE01 internal width is 5 5/8 inches, very close and a tight fit.
Has anyone tried to put the 650watt into a TE01 and had success with the size and connectors?

Hi @Sal627,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to upgrade the power supply unit (PSU) in your HP ENVY Desktop TE01-4354 to support a more powerful GPU like the NVIDIA RTX-2070 Super is a common upgrade, but it does present some challenges regarding fit and compatibility.
PSU Fit:
- HP L57253-003 and L36049-003 (650W PSU) for the HP G4 tower both measure 5.51 inches (140mm) wide. Your case’s internal width of 5 5/8 inches (142.875mm) means the PSU would be a very tight fit, as you’ve noted, but still technically possible.
- The length and depth of the PSU are just as important as the width. Double-check the length and depth of the PSU against your case dimensions to ensure it will physically fit without interfering with other components like the motherboard or drive bays.
PSU Connectors:
- The NVIDIA RTX-2070 Super typically requires a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCIe power connector. You will need to confirm that the HP PSU (either L57253-003 or L36049-003) has the required connectors for your GPU.
- The HP L57253-003 should provide sufficient PCIe power connectors, but it’s important to verify this specific model supports the necessary connectors for your RTX-2070 Super.
Key Points to Consider:
- PSU Dimensions: Check depth and height, not just width, to ensure it will fit.
- Connectors: Ensure the PSU has the required connectors (6-pin and 8-pin PCIe) for your GPU.
- Cable Management: Modular PSUs can make installation easier in tight spaces.
- Cooling: Adding a higher-wattage PSU and a powerful GPU may increase heat. Ensure your case has sufficient airflow and consider adding extra cooling if necessary.

Thank you Gaya for the comprehensive answer.
It is interesting that many of the 650 watt HP PSU's with the HP L57253-003 and L36040-003 model numbers have different connectors. Some have one 6 and 2 pin combination connector. Some have two 6 and 2 pin options.
My 310 watt PSU that came with my TE01-4254 has a small 6 pin connector to the RenoR motherboard, that, I believe, powers the fan. Many of the 650 watt units do not have this connector,
It is often difficult to ascertain what connectors are available on the upgraded PSU's. The pictures given on EBAY and sites like ALI are not very good at showing all the connectors on their PSU's. Very few actually have a separate listing to clarify what connectors the PSU actually comes with. I am also weary about the "Gold" rating on some of the PSU's and wonder whether this is just a lable stuck on an undependable unit, or whether it is actually a verifiable Gold level unit.
A lot to think about, but one thing is clear, finding an affordable PSU with the correct model number alone is insufficient to make a decision on whether it will be workable with the requirements of your PC.
Again, thank you for your help.
