Bingo, you hit the nail on the head. The adapter draws more than 500ma, so my computer was disabling it. I went to Staples and purchased a powered 4 port USB hub and the problem is SOLVED.

so what was the exact problem? Was it that the USB ports at 500 was not enough power?
thanks I'm pulling the wireless et works but just can't connect this it what it looks like? U see my IP address at all o's as well as subnet mask? Is that right?

I think I have the same problem except previously my Alfa product was working without any issues. One day it refused to be recognized by all USB ports and cylces on and off when plugged in. I don't understand why suddenly my USB ports won't be able to support it. There's a small chance it may have suffered water damage but I am not certain of that.

hello guys
i keep having the same problem my alfa RTL8187 kept turning off and on, i have tried all the drives on my system but it didnt work when i tried it on my friends system it worked so am thinking is a hardware pls am open to any help here
