Hi @blueoscar,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
Yes, it is possible to add an additional hard drive to your OMEN by HP 25L Gaming Desktop PC GT14-2000i (88Z00AV). This desktop model typically comes with space for additional storage drives, making it relatively straightforward to expand your storage capacity. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you add an additional hard drive:
Check Available Slots:
- Your OMEN 25L Gaming Desktop typically has available slots for additional 3.5-inch hard drives and/or 2.5-inch SSDs. Check the internal specifications of your model to confirm the number and type of available slots.
- You can also check the motherboard's manual for information on available SATA ports and M.2 slots if you are considering adding an SSD.
Choose the Right Drive:
- For a traditional hard drive, choose a 3.5-inch SATA HDD.
- For faster performance, consider adding a 2.5-inch SATA SSD or an M.2 NVMe SSD if your motherboard supports it.
Gather Required Tools:
- You will need a screwdriver, usually a Phillips head, to open the case and secure the drive.
- SATA data cable (for SATA drives) if not included with the new drive.
- Power cable from the PSU; these are often already available within the case for additional drives.
Turn Off and Unplug the Computer:
- Shut down your PC, unplug all cables, and press the power button briefly to discharge any residual power.
Open the Case:
- Lay your desktop on its side and locate the screws or latch that secures the side panel (usually on the left side when facing the front of the desktop).
- Remove the side panel carefully.
Locate the Drive Bays:
- Inside the case, locate the available drive bays. There are usually designated bays for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives.
- If installing an M.2 SSD, locate the M.2 slot on the motherboard.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hi @blueoscar,
Please find the remaining steps below.
Install the Hard Drive:
- For 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch SATA Drives:
- Slide the new drive into an available bay.
- Secure the drive with screws provided with your case or drive.
- Connect the SATA data cable from the drive to an available SATA port on the motherboard.
- Connect the SATA power cable from the PSU to the drive.
- For M.2 SSDs:
- Insert the M.2 SSD into the slot at a 30-degree angle, then press it down gently and secure it with a screw.
Close the Case:
- Replace the side panel and secure it with screws or latches.
Reconnect and Power On:
- Plug in all cables, including power, monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and turn on your PC.
Configure the New Drive:
- Initialize the Drive:
- Open Disk Management (right-click the Start button and select Disk Management).
- A prompt will appear to initialize the new drive. Choose GPT (GUID Partition Table) for modern systems, especially if you plan on using drives larger than 2 TB.
- Format the Drive:
- Right-click on the unallocated space of the new drive, select New Simple Volume, and follow the prompts to format and assign a drive letter.
- Check Power Supply Unit (PSU) Capacity: Ensure your PSU has enough capacity to handle additional power requirements, especially if you're adding multiple drives.
- Cable Management: Keep cables tidy to maintain good airflow inside the case.
- BIOS Settings: If the drive doesn’t appear in Windows, check your BIOS settings to ensure the SATA ports or M.2 slots are enabled.
By following these steps, you should be able to successfully add an additional hard drive to your OMEN 25L Gaming Desktop.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
