Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My computer came originally with a 2TB SATA HDD as the  primary drive/boot drive/etc connected to the SATA0 port. There was only one drive. Recently I took out this HDD and replaced it with a 480GB Kingston SSD. It not only boots much faster, everything is faster even the shut down.

I have also been using a USB external storage device for backup purposes. I would like to re-install my original HDD, connected to the SATA1 port and use it in place of my external storage.

I have now physically re-installed the drive in an open bay, connected power and connected the added HDD to the SATA1 port. But when I boot the system, it boots normally and fine, but I can't see the added HDD. Do I need to toggle something to activate the SATA1 port or am I doing something else wrong. I did a 'search for new hardware' from the device manager piece of the control panel but the report back was that no new hardware was found.

Not sure what happened but for some reason the added HDD is now visible. Maybe it was the bios update?? I guess I'll never know. The link you provided has all the information I need to now go in and reformat this drive and prep it for other uses than being a boot drive. Thanks.
