HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-1000i RCTO Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

I've just purchased an HP Envy TE02-1000i running Windows 11, and I thought I had properly added an M2 SSD to the motherboard (Samsung Pro 990 4TB, had to remove the graphics card to get to the SSD2 mount), but the computer can't seem to find it. Is there something else I have to do to get it to show up as a device I can use?

Thank you.

Run the Create and Format app and the app should ask to "initialize" the drive.

If not then unplug the SATA drive from the motherboard.  Some z790 chipset motherboards allow one or the other device.

I dont think this is the case but I was unable to find a real service manual and had difficulty finding an image of the motherboard.  The one image I found indicated a single SATA connector.

I assume you added the SSD as a second SSD and did not replace the SSD that came with the system.

Have you tried samsung magician?

If the samsung app sees it then make a note of the firmware and look at the one star reviews for the same firmware version.   It would be unusual to have it DOA but it can happen.

Thanks for the advice, but it does not show up in the Disk Management app, and it does not show up in Samsung Magician. I did add this as a second SSD and did not replace the one that came with the system, and it's supposed to support both (three actually) - three M.2 ports show up in UEFI and they're all enabled.

I fixed the problem by purchasing an enclosure for the SSD, attaching it to the computer via USB, formatting it, and reinstalling it on the motherboard. All good now.
