HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On the motherboard IPM17-TP, their are four DDR4 DIMM sockets.  Sockets 1 and 3 are black and 2 and 4 are blue.  I have two 4 GB RAM from one manufacturer and I'm adding 2 8 GB RAM from a different manufacturer.  I usually pair like brands and capacities on the same channel when having mixed sets.  On this motherboard, are the channels paired 1&2 and 3&4 or are they paired based on color (1&3 and 2&4)?  I can't find a manual for the IPM17-TP that explains the pairing.  Thanks.

Hi:

The channels are matched by color.

So, you would install the 2 x 4 Gb in one color and the 2 x 8 GB in the other color.

I like to install the larger capacity memory in the primary slots (1 and 3) and the lower capacity memory in slots 2 and 4.

I don't think it makes any difference though, but that is how I do it.
