Pavillion 690-0073w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, I just got this desktop and bought a 1TB Samsung evo 860 2.5 inch sata III ssd to add onto it. I was just wondering what specific cables and mounts I'd need to purchase to install it and instructions on how I'd go about doing that. In detail, please. I'm new to this, lol. Some Amazon links would be extremely appreciated, but not totally necessary.

You surely must have come across this wealth of knowledge:

If you're lucky all the wiring should be in place. I am not sure about the trays / screws and the like - best to check inside first.

I did see that, it's just kinda difficult to figure out precise steps through arrows and numbers with no instructions.

As long as you have - either supplied by HP or requisitioned by yourself:

1. Disk tray

2. Screws

3. Spare SATA cable

4. Spare power cable

Then installation should be a doddle.

@alexlujan21,

Lets put this into proper perspective, OK?

That unit has a LINCS motherboard, which does not have any SATA power leads coming from the power supply.  If you trace back from the DVD drive, you will find an unused SATA power plug.  Follow that cable, and you will find that it is attached to the motherboard.  You will find a spare SATA data header on the motherboard, near the existing SATA data lead from the DVD drive.

Look at upgrade pages shown here, is this your model. If so see page 13. Note the bottom screws are used with drives.

PS<> LINCS motherboards appear in the HP590, 595,

So with the 690-0073w all the cables should already be provided and available in the unit and all I have to do is attach my ssd and mount it?

@alexlujan21,

You still need a SATA data cable from the drive to the motherboard.

Thought that it might be the case.

Check if you don't need to have a cable with angled SATA plug by any chance (I did) - and if you do, you can buy something of that sort:

I got this one and it serves me well.
