Hello,
I'm adding a second HDD to my desktop, salvaged from my previous desktop.
I have attached the drive to the caddy and clipped it back into place with cable P5 plugged to the secondary drive. That's as far as I've got. I'm thinking there's a cable missing. The installed drive on the top bay has two cables attached (marked 'P4' & 'HDD'), but there doesn't seem to be a free HDD cable anywhere in the case. The new drive is not appearing on Explorer either. Obviously, there's extra steps I need to take to get the new drive operational so could anyone guide me through the process, whether it's adding additional cables and/or a software/BIOS thing?
TIA,
Neil, Glasgow GB.

Have you watched the entire video, to check what is shown?
I put an image where the hp support shows where the SATA connectors are on the motherboard

It seems to me that on the image you gave it roughly corresponds to this place surrounded.

Hello
yes, take a look at how the first HDD is connected
You must have a sata type cable connected, that of the data, it must be connected to a sata port of the motherboard, the other that of power, of the HDD should be connected to the power supply box, this cable is connected to it. most often available
So you are certainly missing the sata data cable!

I am not trying to REPLACE a drive, I'm trying to ADD an extra drive alongside the existing HDD in the spare bay.
As I said in my earlier post, I now have the additional storage drive in place, but there is not an extra 7-pin SATA cable, or an empty SATA 7-pin female socket on the motherboard or exiting the PSU. There is a SATA power cable labelled P5, which I have connected, but I cannot find a way to connect another SATA cable. What I need to know is where I can attach a 7-pin SATA cable to connect the additional storage drive (if at all).

yes, I understood that it was an addition, the documents are just for information
you have the one on the motherboard, you do not have the same?
intel
14. Primary HDD SATA connector
15. Secondary HDD SATA connector
motherboard specifications, Dorado
hp does not give an image and the number of connectors here
if you don't have a dvd player, as mentioned, and only one original hdd, then you must have at least one free sata!
now i may not understand it well !?

sorry but your pictures don't let me see anything
Can you follow the sata cable from drive one to the connector on the motherboard?
according to the hp manual we can see the two sata connectors well below the graphics card.
A single sata connector seems very unlikely to me
did you watch the video?
if you have the same configuration, chapter graphics card
disconnect the two sata data ..

This is what my GT12 looks like inside. There are no visible SATA connectors on the motherboard.
It looks like the power & data SATA cables exit the PSU, go into a hole at the base, then travel behind the motherboard to exit at the top of the case. Cables marked P4 & HDD are connected to the original drive, cable P5 I have connected to the new secondary drive. The only power connectors I can see on the motherboard is the main power from the PSU, and the USB3 connector for the ports on the top of the case next to the on/off switch & headset jack.

OK, I see it now. I was looking for latched connectors. there seems to be a spare slot (why would HP not fit a cable???)
If I fit the cable will my PC recognise the drive or are there other steps I must take before the disk is installed?

No, generally once the sata cable is connected, no problem
You probably know it, but to have access to this drive later, you will have to format it, create one or more partitions.
It may happen that an HDD is not detected, but it is quite rare
