Adding a 2nd NVME...
03-20-2021 12:29 PM

Went to install an NVME into SSD1 on my 30L Z490 MB. After un screwing the plastic cover, I found a ~ .25H X .75"W X 1.5"L black sticky foam underneath stuck to the motherboard. I removed it and installed the NVME. I'm wondering now if I should have left the stuff in there as some sort of heat sink?

@tensplayer , welcome to the Community.
Many manufacturers do use thermal tape/material to shield their M.2's. However, the ones that I have seen don't look like what you posted. I suggest that you reinstall it if you can do so without stressing the M.2.

@ibfrenchy, I would appreciate it if you would let us know if this is a heat-sink or just packing. It certainly doesn't look like any heat-sink that I have seen.
