Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I recently bought a Hp envy TE01-3021 desktop computer and a second hard drive.  The computer came with the power and data cable already hooked up to the mother board.  I used these cables to connect the second hard drive to the mother board.  The problem is that the computer does not seem to detect the second hard drive.  I invoked the BIOS by pressing F10 at boot up and got the expected BIOS screen.  I looked at several pages of the BIOS and I do not see anything about the installed hard drives, not even the hard drive that the computer came with.

I checked Windows by looking at "My computer" and Windows says that only the original hard drive ( C: ) is there.  How do I access the second hard drive?

@Bill_Stanley , welcome to the Community.

You should go into the Disk Management to see if the drive is listed.  If it is listed, right click on it and select "Mark Partition as Active".  This should make the drive accessible.

If it is not listed make certain that it is connected correctly.

Please click the "Yes" button if my reply was helpful and "Accept as Solution" if your problem is Solved!!

Your suggestion might be helpful but I guess that I didn't want to make the request too complicated.  There is a slight twist.

I want to dual boot using the second hard drive for Linux.  Do you think that if the windows disk manager "sees" that the second hard drive is present, would the Linux install disk would "see" it as well?  I'll try that route and see what happens.  I had to take the computer back to Micro-Center and one of the experts went trough the BIOS and found that the BIOS does "see" the second hard drive.  I'll try if I can now do a dual boot install.

Best wishes

Thank you for the additional information, @Bill_Stanley!

I haven't worked with Linux for several years.  Therefore, I suggest that you go to the website for the distro that you are trying to install.  The members there are the experts on Linux.  They have always been very helpful for me.
