HP Z420 Workstation

Adding a secondary internal DVD player to a Z420 system.

I put the new DVD player in and hooked it up directly next to the one that came with the Z420.  Now I cannot locate it, just locates the original DVD player.  What am I doing wrong or not doing?  When I press the new DVD player eject, it works, and putting a DVD in it and closing it the green light does come on, but still the system does not recognize the new DVD player??  Any help is greatly appreciated.

What did you connect it to?

It should have a SATA connection as well as a power connection.

From your description of the symptoms, it sounds as if you only have power connected.

Without the SATA bus connection the OS will not recognize its presence and it will not be seen in Windows Explorer or the device manager.

If you have made both power and bus connections, then it is likely that the DVD drive has internal issues.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I hope you don't mind my asking.

Most people don't use DVD rewriters any more and have switched to USB flash drives because of the storage capacity limitation.

What do you plan on using a DVD Rewriter for?
