Hey HP community,
Thanks to a promotion, I managed to order a 'OMEN 25L GT11-1466no' (https://support.hp.com/lv-en/document/c07637127) computer.
The base Hard drive is only 500Go and I would like to add a second 1To ssd. I have some troubles understanding what m.2 slot will be available or not from the datasheet, I believe it should be OK, but I prefer having the opinion of more experienced people.
So, my question would be, could I mount an extra m.2 ssd to the computer ?
(the one I was thinking was: https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-MZ-V8V1T0B-AM-980-SSD/dp/B08V83JZH4)
Big thanks in advance to anyone that gonna take some time checking that out 🙂

Its specs
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c07637127
and its motherboard
https://support.hp.com/rs-en/document/c07056168
which shows it has two M.2 slots for SSD's
- One PCI Express 4.0 x16 lanes
- One PCI Express 3.0 x1 lanes
- One M.2 socket 1, key A
- Two M.2 socket 3, key M (one for SSD card PCIe x4 Gen 3)
The first one is already occupied by WD_BLACK 512 GB PCIe NVMe TLC SSD. You can add similar but larger capacity SSD fo your machine. The Samsung 980 M.2 NVMe SSD series won't run at designed speed; you can use cheaper 970 series.
Regards.

Hey,
Thanks for the detailed answer !
I got some new question on the understanding part now 🙂
You said I had 2*m.2 slot for ssd, why isn't the 'M.2 socket 1, key A' counted ? Does that mean that per default it gonna be used for something else ? I saw this typeA can be used for USB, so this one would be taking care of all external USB slots to the computer ?
Based on:
Regarding the speed of the extra ssd, you said something about not running at the designed speed (3000mt/s), I'm guessing it is because of the Generation of the port:
Using a convertor I found that: (I'm guessing I'm supposed to go with the 4GB/s => PCIe X4 Gen 3)
I find the value extremely low in comparison to the data speed I see on every ssd, where am I getting it wrong ?
Based only on your comment, I believe this m.2 ssd should have a better fit:

Once again, big thank you !
Best regards

No, the One M.2 socket 1, key A is already occupied the wifi adapter. For other M.2 slot, I mentioned: same as existing one (but same or larger capacity) The Samsung 980 series use PCIe Gen 4, not Gen 3. And the One PCI Express 4.0 x16 lanes is occupied by the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 (8 GB) video card.
Regards.
