Hello i have a HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Tower PC and i was wondering if you could add a new aftermarket motherboard into the case? would the case still work like a normal custom case? or is it limited to the HP hardware in some way? hopefully i worded the question right... basically i like the case and how it looks but i wanna kind of customize it more but im not sure the size of the motherboard and or what size motherboard would fit into the case.. also would i be able to take the CPU out that is in the PC right now and add it to another motherboard that is compatible with the cpu? or is the CPU some how locked to the motherboard its in right now? Thanks! i appreciate the help!

@DirtyGerty -- if you change the motherboard, you will need to purchase a new license to run Microsoft Windows. The terms of the license state that when the motherboard "dies", your license to use that copy of Windows also "dies".
Also, the HP motherboards are "proprietary" -- the position of the external sockets fits the back-side hole in the computer's case, but a "generic" motherboard might be quite different.
Some computers have the CPU permanently soldered to the motherboard -- making it unremovable, and thus not available to be "re-purposed".
Also, the power-cables from the power-supply into the motherboard may have a proprietary connector, unlike the (possible) replacement motherboard.
You could possibly "make it work", but it definitely will be a "project" requiring planning & skill.

the hp board and case are non standard
you should be able to replace your G2 board with the newer G3, as both boards use the same rear I/O, and power supply
check ebay for price/availability
