Hi

You could buy a PCIE SATA adapter if you don't have a discrete graphics card installed in the available PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard.

Please see here for an example of one for sale at Amazon.

Hi v2e2

You can review HP's hard drive replacement instructions at this link.

It would appear you may not be able to add a second HDD because your motherboard has two SATA connectors and your PC is using two SATA connectors (primary HDD and a CD/DVD drive).

I could be mistaken. This is what the specs show at your PC's Support site.

Thanks for that and this is what I thought as well.

Good suggestion, Grzy.

I have not bought the system yet just doing research. but I do think there is a discrete video card. Alternatively, I may add a SSD with the m2 SSD socket.

Thanks,

Hi v2e2

You are welcome.

The lubin motherboard does have an M.2 socket for adding a PCIe 3x4 NVME SSD. It is near the 24 pin ATX power supply connector.

That would be a better option as you will get faster data transfer rates.

It also looks like it may not be possible to add a second SATA HDD or SSD. It is hard to tell from the HP Servicing Guide. It looks like there is room for a second drive on the drive cage.

Grzy,

Since p017c comes with a discrete video card, pcie Sata drive is out. But would  m.2 Sata drive work for the system.

thanks,

Victor

Hi v2e2

The MB has the required hardware.

I would hope HP has programmed the BIOS to support booting to a PCIe 3x4 NVME drive. This may be included in the BIOS now.

It should work as a data drive. You should install the NVME driver provided by the drive manufacturer after installing the new drive. You don't have to use the manufacturer driver as Windows 10 will provide a generic NVME driver.

You would have to check the BIOS to see if this drive appears as a bootable device.

HP has a BIOS update for your motherboard SSID (82F2) here. The fix is a security enhancement. No additional support for devices is included in this BIOS update.
